Rechargeable or battery? Choosing the right hearing aid
Visibility, power source, connectivity and budget: the criteria we weigh together when choosing a hearing aid.

There is no single answer to “which hearing aid is best?”. The best one is the one that suits your hearing loss, ear shape, daily life and expectations. These are the main things we look at together:
Rechargeable hearing aids
- Charge overnight; a full charge usually lasts the whole day.
- No battery changes — ideal if fine finger movements are difficult.
- When travelling, just bring the charging case.
Battery hearing aids
- Batteries swap in seconds; no need for a socket.
- Still preferred for some very small in-ear and power models.
- Batteries are an ongoing cost.
Other criteria
- Visibility: custom in-ear models are almost invisible, while receiver-in-canal (RIC) models offer a small, comfortable balance.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth matters if you want calls and music streamed straight to your hearing aids.
- Degree of hearing loss: severe losses may need more powerful behind-the-ear models.
- Budget and SGK: if prescription and report requirements are met, you may benefit from the SGK contribution.
Trying a hearing aid in your own daily life is the best way to decide. At Bilim İşitme you can trial suitable models free of charge.
